The weight of the sun

Imagine all the matter in our system. The Sun, all the planets, the dozens of moons orbiting the planets, the asteroids, comets and all the remaining flotsam. Now imagine you place everything on a giant scale in order to weigh and assess it. Amazingly, you would discover the sun accounts for 99.86% of the total mass!

So now try to think of it this way: If the entire solar system is worth $100, the sun would be $99.86. The sun is almost all of it!

Of the 14 cents that remain, Jupiter would be 10 cents and Saturn 3 cents. Everything else, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Eris, moons, asteroids, comets etc would be the final penny. The earth would be about 3/100 of that penny.

I guess this tells us the Sun is pretty big and the earth is really small.

And as for all life including me, you, and the rest of us……………
